Different substances are utilised to produce different colours and effects in fireworks. However, when these chemicals are used by themselves, their colours are not intense enough to be considered as spectacular. In fact, the colours are actually dull. Thus, other compounds are used to increase their brightness. Aluminium powder is mixed in the firework's "star" to intensify the brilliance of the explosion. Magnesium powder is also used to improve the detonation's brilliance. In addition, it creates bright white explosions by itself.
